COMIC BOOK QUICK HITS #27 - PUNISHER & DAREDEVIL TEAMS REVEALED, DC NATION EMERGES TO HELP CN, ASPEN #0 ISSUES SELL OUT
Hello. Did you all miss me? I missed you. Welcome to the latest edition of Comic Book Quick Hits, where we give you comic book news in fast doses; kind of like how fast a hooker will open their legs for a rich man. Anywho, we got news, news and more News.
MARVEL
1 - You remember that I said I would have the creative teams of the upcoming Punisher & Daredevil new ongoings for the last 2 Comic Book Quick Hits but didn't. Well, now I do. As announced in C2E2, Here are the creative teams for the new ongoings:
Punisher - to be written by Greg Rucka with art by Marco Checchetto
Greg Rucka commented to CBR about the upcoming Punisher ongoing, particularly its lead: Frank Castle:
"There are certain characters to me that need to stay the same. In fact part of their character arc is their inability to change and their unwillingness to grow. If you change the Punisher you break him. Most characters come with all of this baggage. Frank does have a lot of baggage, but it's already been sorted. His wife Maria and his kids are never coming back and he knows that. Everything he does now is because he has a termination point on the horizon. He knows he's going to die eventually, but he's got a lot to do before he gets there. His goals are very clear and straightforward and there is something genuinely wonderful about a character who is that pure."
Rucka also stated that this series will take place in the Marvel Universe proper and that while he is not scared of any super heroes and villains, Rucka feels that Frank does not want to deal with them cause they take him away from his mission. Frank knows that he is running out of time and he is driven, not crazy, but driven to make sure he accomplishes it.
Along with Rucka on Punisher is rising artist Marco Checchetto, who did work on Daredevil and the Shadowland: After the Fall one shot. Punisher # 1 will basically introduce the new status quo and give Frank a clean slate without delving into his back story. And Rucka promises a new rogues gallery for Frank, instead of old ones.
Punisher # 1 by Greg Rucka & Marco Checchetto will hit stores this June.
2 - Which comes to the next part of this lovely set of news. Daredevil's new ongoing will feature the return of Matt Murdock with brand new team of:
Mark Waid, Paolo Rivera & Marcos Martin.
Yes, the critically acclaimed writer will be joined by both artists as they work on a double-sized #1 then rotate for arcs on the book. Waid plans on bring Matt Murdock back with a new job, reunite with old friends, gain some new ones and while he insists that the book will still be street level, noir book, he wants to make Daredevil a little more adventurous.
He quotes during the convention at a panel:
"It's going to stay gritty, and street level, but, with all due respect to the last ten years, it would be nice to finish an issue without feeling like I need a stiff drink. There will be a bit more of the "superhero swashbuckler" angle than has been seen recently, "
Waid pointed out that while he cannot be a legal attorney anymore, Matt Murdock will do something a bit more related with the law. Plus, definitely expect to see Foggy Nelson, Luke Cage and Iron Fist all make appearances in the book. And while some fans may seem skeptical on Daredevil being more adventurous and dealing with super villains, Waid points out for all of the legendary run by Frank Miller's darkness and noir, Daredevil also fought the Hulk during his run. Chew on that.
Daredevil # 1 by Mark Ward & Paolo Rivera and Marcos Martin will hit the stands this July with a double-sized issue.
DC

A trailer of the new Green Lantern animated film, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights featuring 6 stories with Nathan Fillion (from Firefly & Castle) being Hal Jordon for the film. It will deal with important moments and lanterns in the history of the corps and it looks FRELLING AWESOME.
John Stewart, Kilowog, Sinestro, Abin Sur, Arisia, and more classic characters from the Green Lantern myths will be seen. Other stars voicing characters in Roddy Piper, John Issacs, Elizabeth Moss & Henry Rollins.
God, Like Roddy Piper be Kilowog. PLEASE!!! Or Guy Gardner!!!
GL: Emerald Knights comes on dvd this June.
2 - DC and Cartoon Network have announced a brand new block of programming called DC Nation. According to DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson, DC Nation will be a multi-platform block where original DC animated programming will stem from. She comments:
We and our partners at WBTV are thrilled that fans will be able to immerse themselves in DC’s phenomenal stories, experience a wide spectrum of amazing characters and stay up-to-date on the latest happenings of the world’s greatest superheroes and their creators, both on-air and online.”
And DC Nation is already causing some exciting waves as part of the block will be the current DCU Animated hit series, Young Justice, which is already been picked up for another season. Surprisingly, Batman: The Brave & the Bold, who was originally going to be cancelled, is NO LONGER BEING CANCELLED and picked up for another season. Yes. That is right! Batman: The Brave & The Bold is NOT cancelled and picked up for another season.
To add to that block, Ben 10 will feature a brand new incarnation after the end of Ultimate Alien, which will also join the block. Word as to what the incarnation is going to be has yet to be released. Playing along side it will be shorts based off the classic MAD magazine.
Finally, the block will be rounded out by the brand new Green Lantern Animated Series & the new relaunch of the Thundercats anime.
Yes . . . you read that correctly:
Young Justice
Batman: The Brave & The Bold
MAD animated shorts
Ben 10 (whatever they are gonna name this one)
The Thundercats (brand new anime)
Green Lantern Animated Series.
All together in the same block that you can watch on TV or the internet.
Good God! Cartoon Network is certainly trying to make up for cancelling Toonami! Shame that they are cancelling Symbiotic Titan. But this is a GREAT Make up gift.
DC Nation will hit tvs and the internet in 2012.
INDEPENDENTS
1 - Over at Aspen, the late Michael Turner would be jumping up and down. His magical creation Soulfire and brand new title Charismagic recently sold out! The new Soulfire #0 and Charismagic #0 sold out, giving Aspen some great footing in the independent scene. Soulfire scribe JT Krul was thrilled about it. He gave his comment to CBR:
"Now this is the kind of "sellout" you want to be! I am beyond thrilled about the book selling out. If anything, it's a testament to the amazing world Michael Turner created that I have been fortunate enough to live in for the past several years. To everyone who picked it up, thanks for all the support."
It is amazing how well creator owned and independent books are doing nowadays, ain't it. And these are non super hero books. Charismagic is kind of a drama with magic and mystery while Soulfire is a fantasy book. What does that tell you about readers today?
Just an FYI:
Charismagic # 1 written by Vince Hernandez & art by Khary Randolph hits stores on April 6th.
Soulfire # 1 , Volume 3 written by JT Krul & art by Jason Fabok hits stores April #13.
Get them while they are HOT!!!
And we are gonna end the news there for this week. They will be more next week . . . I promise. Anyway, thank you for reading this. There is a LOT to smile about now. For god's sake. I might ACTUALLY read the Punisher.
Oh yeah. I want to personally apologize to Judd Winick. Fans who remember my rant about the happenings of Justice League Generation Lost a few months ago remembers my little . . . rant. So again . .. my sincere apologies to you Judd Winick.
For those who do not understand why, pick up Justice League Generation Lost # 22 and you will understand.
All right all! See ya next week . . .And if you are on the side of evil, say good bye!
NEXT WEEK: SPIDERMAN GETS AN ISLAND . . .Wait, What?!
