LarryVaried!
I'm Larry, or Flapperdoodle (my YouTube persona), and I LOVE reviewing things. The problem is... I usually can't categorize what I like to review the most. So, I decided, what if I reviewed a bunch of different things. Whether a TV show, a movie, and game, a book, or whatever, I can review it like I would anything else. I always had a craving for written reviews, and my friend ShadowThePika told me Reviewtopia is the place for it. So, this is my place to start. While I do have 2 YT channels for LPs and Video Reviews, I would like you guys to enjoy my written reviews, and just remember, I may record 2 totally different things in a row. That is normal. Don't worry. ;)

LarryVaried #10: Tower Heist Review!
Hey Everybody, This is LarryVaried! This is the only blog in which I can do two totally different things on it in a row, and it's totally normal.
After my dissapointing failure of seeing Puss in Boots, I did go see the next best thing. Before we see my review, I would like to remind whoever is reading that "FRIDAY NIGHT WITH FLAPS" will be again happening this Friday. So, if ya can hit my channel up and go to JustinTV, sit down, and have a good time!
But for now...

Ignore the obnoxious watermark...
Josh Kovacs (Ben Stiller) is the hotel manager at "The Tower", this movies's own Trump Tower. He knows every nook and cranny of the building, every detail of every member's schedule, and every item needed by every customer. One of his best friends at the hotel is the wealthiest man living in it, Arthur Shaw (Alan Alda). It all seems to be going well, until one sudden day, Mr. Shaw is accused of being caught in a ponzi scheme and we soon learn that everyone at the hotel invested in him all thanks to Josh, thus causing them to lose all of their money. After a small incident, Josh and two other workers at the hotel named Charlie (Casey Affleck) and Enrique (Micheal Pena) get fired.
But Josh isn't going to let this fly as he insists they try to take revenge, and the only reason they would take revenge is for money, so let's rob him! Charlie and Enrique are hesitant about joining them, but Josh soon calls upon the help of Odessa (Gabourey Sidibe), the nurse and Mr. Fitzhugh (Matthew Broderick), a resident at the hotel who has recently been evicted. None of them know how to steal, so Josh calls upon his neighbor and local gangsta Slide (Eddie Murphy) and they soon team up to rob the so called 20,000,000 hiding in Arthur Shaw's penthouse.
While "Tower Heist" may have an incredulous plot, that doesn't stop it from being a funny, entertaining, and suspenseful heist movie that gets the job done. It may give characters too much or not enough screen time, but you still care about many of the characters as you're watching. The movie does borderline it's PG-13 rating, but still manages to be funny without the need of profanity. Overall, Tower Heist is an enjoyable experience.
Now, I will get this out of the way NOW, Tower Heist has a very incredulous storyline. Yes, there are many moments where you may be scratching your head and asking "How could this happen?" or "How could they just go with this?". I understand if you ask this during the movie (I did a few times), but soon you have to realize... this is a HEIST movie. Do you expect this to be THAT realistic? And to be honest, I didn't think that the plot made the movie any less enjoyable.
The acting is very good. The cast is all-around fantastic with the exception of Murphy... he's AWESOMELY EPICLY FANTASTIC! He is easily the best character and the funniest to watch and its nice to see Eddie Murphy being his hilarious self again. Looking forward to him hosting this year's Oscars! Everyone does good including the not yet mentioned Tea Leoni, Judd Hirsch, and Stephen Henderson. The problem I have is that there are characters who get too much screen time, and some to little. For too much, I'll give that to Tea Leoni and Stephen Henderson. Leoni was there to be nothing more than to be there. In fact, the character was really pointless. She got too much screen time with her role in the movie. Any actress could've been this character. Henderson had this plotline that slowed down the movie for me.
For too litte, I have to give it to Alan Alda and Gabourey Sidibe. Alan Alda was the VILLAIN! He deserves more screen time for being one. He also could've been a little more diabolical, but I liked his subtlety. Gabourey Sidibe felt like a character just put in there to be a safe cracker. She did well, but like Leoni she didn't get enough screen time for me to care to much about her.
The movie does well balancing action and suspense. There is a lot of it in the movie and you'll eat it right up. I felt the action was well shot and well directed and the suspense the same. There is drama in there as well, but it is forgotten because the characters are there long enough. Also, I will tell you this, the ending of the movie is very good. Let's just say, it's very bittersweet and shows that not everybody gets off scot-free. I give props to Brett Ratnor for directing a movie nicely, and Ted Griffin and Jeff Nathonson for writing a funny screenplay.
One problem and one upside to the screenplay, The upside is that the chemistry between the characters is perfect. It truly feels like these characters have been through relationships and they know each other well enough to discuss things the way you think they would. I would like to say this specifically to Stiller and Leoni where you can tell they've had a past. Maybe that's why she was there... a problem though is the profanity. I'm not against profanity, don't get me wrong, but I will say for the record that this movie is bordering the barrier of its PG-13 rating. This isn't a bad thing, but this movie isn't R solely because it has no dick shots or nudity. The movie is high in profanity and a high enough amount of jokes are funny solely because of profanity. It wasn't a huge issue, but it still was enough of one to notice it.
To conclude, this movie was a very fun time at the movies. After seeing Real Steel, I didn't think any movie could top that movie's enjoyability. This was very close. The difference between Real Steel and Tower Heist besides for plot was Tower Heist is a less flawed movie. The movie does have an incredulous plot, relies slightly on profanity, and has characters on and off the screen when they shouldn't, but I am overall happy with this movie. It is fun to watch, has a perfect cast, shows good chemistry with each other, has good action ans suspense, and overall is worth the money. My grade for Tower Heist is a:
8.5/10: Very Good (You really should go see it for Murphy, cause he is back!)
