Techno Takeover Episode 6
"You Are My Diamond"
DJ Tiesto
Featuring
Kianna
(Kianna is the one with blonde hair)
Hello wonderful people!
I am Pugsly and I bet you're all wondering how I can have a review blog involving techno and not have a DJ Tiesto song on it yet. I honestly don't know why I haven't reviewed Tiesto yet, but here it is and the song I have picked is… well look at the title.
Well since you all know about Tiesto, I shall start off with the featured vocalist Kianna Alarid.
Kianna is the lead singer and bass guitarist for Tilly and the Wall from her hometown of Omaha Nebraska. She's been in two other bands with members from Park Ave. and The Faint called Magic kiss and the other band was a hardcore band named Project 356.
Now for Tiesto, his real name Tijs Michiel Verwest, (its Dutch) he is a well-known DJ, producer, and musician. His stage name is "a twist of his childhood nickname" He started out DJ-ing professionally at parties and became a resident DJ between 1985 and 1994 at clubs in the Netherlands after encouragement from his friend/manager Wilfred. (Someone should thank that man) Skipping ahead in time, to 2009- wait a minute... I spot a familiar name! Brian Tanseau, yeah that guy, the guy I just reviewed and I have spotted another famous name, Christian Burns from BBMak.
I'm not explaining who they are if you don't know their name. He worked with him on the production of "In the Dark" on his third studio album Elements of Life. BT collabed with him again on this album for his songs "Bright Morningstar" and "Sweet Things" as a composer and performed vocals on the single "Break My Fall."
Now for the album that contains the song I am reviewing, Kaleidoscope, the fourth studio album released on October 6 2009. It features a handful of artists- Oh hai Nelly Furtado, didn't know you were still singing, nice to see you on Tiesto's album... maybe I'll review your song in the future but for now back to "You Are My Diamond" and Kaleidoscope. The album is mainly a trance album with many other electronic genres present and it is considered to be his most experimental out of all his albums. (He really likes to experiment with his music) It was well received, the album got into the top 10 charts on iTunes in its first week.
And now the moment you've all been waiting for, the lyrics!
Verse one:
"I don’t need a ring to show me
What your love’s worth
Don’t need fancy things to show me
What your love’s worth"
-Begin rant-
Love is not all about materialistic things, it's not about how much money someone has, or the type of car they drive or the type of ring you receive when proposed to. If that's how you hold your lovers standards to you will never be happy. -End rant-
Trust me that could have been ALOT longer.
Here's verse two oh wait I lied here's the chorus, wow that was quick:
"You’re my diamond
When I’m with you, I shine
I’ll be with you every day
So every day I’ll shine so bright"
See she knows what a relationship means, you lover is your diamond and can make you just as happy even though he might not be all that rich. Just the fact she has his love is enough and will always be enough for her to be happy.
(I am not being sexist, I know the song isn't gender specific shut up it's my review)
Verse two:
"I’m a rich girl
When I am with you
I know
You are my whole world
And I will never let you go
I can’t explain
How you light me up inside
I radiate and
That’s not something you can buy"
So this song has a message obviously... That I agree with 100 percent... There are lines that actually make sense, fluent sentences basically... I can't nitpick at this verse... well let's see oh wait that's the chorus again... to the bridge.
The Bridge:
"All my life
I’ve been looking for love
I thought I’d never find it
All my life
I’ve been looking for you
I just didn’t know it"
Nothing… Please give me something, just one little thing to pick at even the slightest little thing! Stop being such a cute and romantic love song. Nope nothing but the chorus and a repetition of “You are my diamond”- wait I've got it!
Maybe this isn't a love song this could totally be seen in a different light! What if the girl was materialistic or she just seemed that way and the guy was about to give up on the relationship and this is her desperate plea to save their relationship. Instead of an obviously upbeat cute little love song it gets really depressing... wow that's horrible... Why would I do that to a song? I don't know why I would do that, I absolutely love this song...
Honestly my next review won't be so depressing I promise.
(I'll get to the Edward Maya and other reviews I've hinted at that I'm still not telling eventually)
