you DO know that santa claus only got his red suit from coka right? the rest is all based on sinter klaas, which traditions came over at the time of new amsterdam ( now knwon as new york). he jsut got his northpol elfs and rendeers stuff at the american cicvil war to motivate the soldiers during the christmas time. until coka used him for addvertising he wore normal warm cloths like a stereotypical almöhi ( man living on the alps).

As a Dutchman, I'm really impressed about your research, though you forgot one little detail about Black Pete and that is the story around his black skin. You see, whenever children ask why Black Pete is black, they're told that it is because they go through the chimneys. Black Pete is black because of all the soot inside the chimney.

Really though, the way I see it: Sinterklaas is just a fun tradition for children. We don't think about whether Saint Nick is white, while his helpers are black. Heck, you could say the same thing about Santa and his elves: he has little people (midgets) working for him.
If you start thinking like that, you're missing the point of the holiday. It's about the presents and spending time and having fun together, not about political correctness.

I've celebrated Saint Nick's birthday for many years with my family and I will continue doing so for many more years to come, simply because it's an incredible fun holiday tradition.
